Harpersfield Township, Ohio – (July 8, 2008) – Northeast Ohio has a gold mine in wine country.
Ferrante Winery, located in the Northeastern corner of Ohio near Geneva brought home seven gold medals from the 2008 Ohio Wine Festival. After three days of judging 243 entries, 158 wines were awarded medals: 28 gold, 67 silver, and 63 bronze.
Ferrante Wines earned 7 Gold medals, 11 Silver, and 6 Bronze!
Ferrante's gold medal-winning wines included the 2006 and 2007 Pinot Grigio Signature Series (Grand River Valley), the 2007 Vidal Blanc (GRV), 2007 Riesling Signature Series (GRV), the 2007 Golden Bunches Dry Riesling (GRV), the 2007 Gewurztraminer Signature Series (GRV), and the Rosato.
The judging took place May 12-14 at the Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center in Wooster. The panel of judges included wine microbiologist Dr. Ralph Kunkee, Professor Emeritus at University of California, Davis and Dr. Andy Reynolds, Professor of Viticulture and Past Interim Director of Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute at Brock University in St. Catherines, Ontario.

In international competitions, Ferrante's 2006 Signature Series Riesling Golden Bunches (GRV) was awarded the Chairman’s Award at the 2008 Riverside International Wine Competition, while the 2006 Vidal Blanc Ice Wine earned a Double Gold Medal at the 2008 Taster’s Guild International Wine Competition. About Ferrante Winery & Ristorante
Family owned and operated since 1937, Ferrante Winery & Ristorante features locally grown and estate-bottled award-winning wines, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Vidal Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Pink Catawba and their very special Ice Wines made from Vidal Blanc and Cabernet Franc. The full-service restaurant, open year round, features Italian specialties, salads, antipasta, steaks, chicken, veal, fresh fish, and gourmet hand-made pizzas. The winery, located near Geneva, Ohio in Harpersfield Township, includes a large patio which features live entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons in the summer.
